If you're going to spend time painting a target on your goal you may as well make the goal be worthwhile. Are you getting caught up being a master of miniatures. That is, miniature thinking, miniature achievements and miniature rewards? If so, and you know it, stop it! Stop it, now! For everyone else, here are three ways to know if you're a master of miniatures or a master of aiming too low.
First. Are you busy thinking about your goals as if they were chores and not your purpose and meaning? Think about it. Life is short. If you could see how much time you had remaining in an hour glass you'd behave differently. You wouldn't tip toe around the things that matter. Why think in ways that waste the precious time you do have? Why set your income goal at $40K per year when you know damn well you and you're family would do better off with $400K? It's aiming low and hitting that's killing you. Dreaming little is sign numero uno that you're a master of miniatures.
Second. Are you afraid to grow your network by remaining in the same circle of people who you've out grown? Metaphorically speaking, are you a 6th grader sitting at the preschooler's table? You will always be the commanding force in the room if you never stretch yourself to sit at the big kid's table. This is a sure sign that you're on your way to becoming a master of miniatures.
Third. There is a slang saying that goes...like a boss. Everybody wants to be like a boss. Would you agree? You can pretend you're in the mirror at home, aim high for a minute and admit it. There's nothing wrong with wanting to walk around feeling good like a boss, talking like a boss and living like a boss. Trouble is, most people want the reward without the work. Every boss I've worked for has earned the right to be called El Jefe (The Boss). They did like James Brown said and paid the cost to be the boss. What kind of costs are you paying today? Are you earning the stripes you need to be the boss or are you aiming to be like a boss? Boss-like people still are not the boss. I'll tell anybody - get your reward by working your ass off. Anything less will have you come off as a master of miniatures.
